IU really took the time to acknowledge Jonghyun and the importance of mental health during her DAESANG speech, a moment that’s supposed to be all about celebrating her and her accomplishments as a musician… she could’ve used her speech to say the usual thank yous and I love yous to her fans, family, and friends, but this angel on earth took it one step further and congratulated all the other idols/artists for their hard work and reminded them that putting yourself first is completely okay and being unhappy sometimes is not a sign of weakness. Not only did she admit to millions of people that she’s felt the similar depression Jonghyun had (which mind you is a huge deal bc of how much of a public figure IU is and how literally so many fans and artists look up to her), but she willingly talked about all of this in front of so many young people and idols from every company, not to mention the fact that she was brave enough to do so in a society that looks down on mental health and illness in general… IU really did that and the audience thinks it’s okay to blatantly scream and yell when their faves are on the screen for like a second while she’s talking and giving an important message no one else is willing to discuss???? This isn’t only a message to K-fans but to all of you: yes, supporting your faves and hyping them up is okay – that’s what you do as fans, of course. But to completely disrespect other artists, ESPECIALLY when they are having their well-deserved moment to shine, makes you a person that no artist will ever be proud to have as a member of their fanbase. Remember that behaving like an asshole isn’t only going to affect you – your actions are going to reflect the reputation of your fandom as a whole, and eventually they will reflect the reputation of the idol(s) you support.

moral of this story basically is to stop being a bitch and stan iu instead, this has been your daily psa thank u!!!

Rant about BTS and America

Okay, before I start this, I have a couple things I would like to say. One: this is my opinion. You don’t have to agree with me, but please do not disregard my opinion as nothing simply because you don’t agree with it. I am completely fine if you’d like to state your opinion in the comments, as long as you are not a complete asshole about it. In fact, I wouldn’t mind having a civilized conversation about this matter. I am old enough to know how to respect other’s opinions, please be mature enough to do the same. Two: I am American. I have lived in America for my entire life. I am aware of the state of our shows, interviews, music scene, and anything related to the sorts.

I apologize if my words are harsh or offensive to anyone, it is not my intent. I’m not sure yet, but I may end up using vulgar language. I will try not to, but it is something that I do and cannot simply remove it from my personality when I’m talking about something I strongly believe in.

The things I’m going to discuss during this rant: BTS’ interviews in America, the AMAs, and the differences in cultural norms of the music scene.

Firstly, can we please stop dragging on the interviewers in America??? Yes, the interviews aren’t what BTS normally get. Yes, they didn’t focus on their music mostly. Yes, they asked dumb questions. But can you just freaking stop? Please remember that this is pretty much the first time BTS is getting thrown into the spotlight here in America. Yes, they were here for the BBMAs, but they did not perform and I believe that the AMAs are bigger than the BBMAs. Also remember that American interviews are extremely different from those that other countries give. American artists are reserved and sensitive to questions (which I know is dumb). Many American artists get butthurt if they are asked certain questions, therefore those questions are vetoed from 90% of American interviews. Another thing, the questions that were used were questions that were sent in to the interviewer. ARMYs sent in those questions, so don’t blame the interviewers for those dumb questions. Sure they chose those questions, but that’s probably what most of the questions sent in were. Many Americans hardly know who BTS are and the interviewers are trying to figure out who they are in the most basic ways.

Secondly, the AMAs. BTS performed. They were amazing. I cried. Lots of ARMYs cried. Their beauty and grace and amazingness shook the entirety of America and the world. STOP COMPLAINING ABOUT THE FACT THAT THEY WERE SECOND TO LAST TO PERFORM!! I’m sorry. I understand that you wanted to see them perform as soon as you could. I understand that lots of ARMYs had stayed up super late hours of the night and potentially got no sleep at all. I understand that. Please understand, though, that there are an order to things. Some people don’t get lucky enough to perform earlier. Everyone had a place. They probably ordered them in the size of their performance. We know that when the performances started, they were pretty basic and mainly standing and singing. As the AMAs went on, the performances got bigger and more extravagant. BTS does not gave a basic performance where they stand and sing. No. They dance, they sing, they have extensive light uses. The stage needs to be prepared for that. It would be a waste to clean up the stage early on only to put everything back on the stage right after their performance. It’s difficult to do and very physically draining on those people who would have to move the things on the stage. Also, how many of you guys turned the AMAs off after BTS finished performing? Most of you guys, right? I’m not even going to lie and say I didn’t. I had watched until they finished performing and then I had to leave to come back to college. You can imagine what their ratings/views looked like when thousands of ARMYs stopped watching after BTS finished. Yes, they most likely used BTS to make their views increase, but that’s how business works. I’m sure that shows all across the world do the same thing. If they let their most anticipated performer go first, then everyone watching for them would stop watching after they were done. By putting them last, they will have higher views and higher ratings and make more money. That’s how you stay in business.

Lastly, stop comparing everything they do in America (award shows, interviews, tv shows, etc.) to what they do in their country. These are two different countries and two different cultures all together. They have no right to be compared. So stop it. Seriously. How would you like it if I judged something of your culture to something of my culture and said yours was bad just because it wasn’t the exact same as mine? You would be pretty fucking pissed and upset. So stop doing it to Americans!! Please. It’s really offensive and harsh.

I’m sorry, again, if this rant offended anyone. It wasn’t my intention. This is simply my opinion on the matter. And I just really needed to get it out there. If you read this long , feel free to leave your opinions in the comments - just be nice about it.

Thanks.

J2M Encounters (1-6)

Aloha, guys! Some J2M encounters from HonCon that people from my Latin American SPN group shared.

A few people flew to Hawaii for this, and apparently the trip was well worth it! lol  Dean and Cas fans, you guys owe me for bringing these to you! lol

These are my summaries and translations, since this was shared in Spanish! :)

Encounter #1:

So my best friend Lena asked Jared if he felt left out because of the Dean/Cas lovefest that happens a lot in this fandom. He literally barrelled over laughing and said, “No, no, I love it. It’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me.” She smiled really wide and said, “Sam doesn’t feel like the third wheel?” Jared apparently responded teasingly, “Sam appreciates his alone time.” She said that he looked like a mischievous little kid, and if anyone thinks he hates Dean/Cas then they should have seen his smile because it was very warm and genuine.

Encounter #2

Someone from the group asked Misha if Cas viewed himself as Jack’s father, because Jack chose him as his dad, and Misha said he did, but he has been more like an absentee father and that Sam’s been the legal guardian. Then Jensen added, “And Dean’s been the grumpy step dad!” LOL! So, basically, Misha and Jensen just confirmed that Dean and Cas are Jack’s dads, who just happen to be lousy at parenting so Uncle Sam has been taking over! The girl who shared this also said that Jensen and Misha laughed and blushed hard after Jensen said this like they just realized what they had implied. It sounded hilarious.

Encounter #3

A girl asked Jensen, “Why does Dean call Jack half-angel in the last episode but anti-christ and other bad names before?” and Jensen said, “In the beginning, he could only see Lucifer in Jack, now he sees Cas.”

Encounter #4

The girl who posted this didn’t share too much context, it was a comment in a longer thread, but she asked Misha why Cas looked a bit subdued during the reunion, and he said Cas was trying to keep it cool because being back meant so much to him. “He was nervous. He didn’t want to fuck it up, because it meant so much to him.”

Encounter #5

Not really an exchange of dialogue, but someone asked Jensen and Misha if they were happy that Team Free Will 2.0 now has a child among the ranks, and Jensen said, “They feel more bonded with Jack, like a missing link” but said that with Jack gone, Team Free Will is fractured again. Hmm…not sure what to make of this one. Thoughts? I do like that Jensen supports the Team Free Will 2.0 idea. I think Jensen has always loved TFW so it makes sense that he loves its second permutation.

Encounter #6

A girl told Jensen that Tombstone was now her favorite episode of Supernatural, and he laughed, put his hand on Misha’s shoulder and said, “I called that one.” And Misha kind of laughed, nodding, “You did.” Jensen then sort of repeated what he told Misha on the set, “Fans are gonna go nuts.” And Misha laughed nodding like ‘it’s all true, you did say that’. My friend also got the impression that they’ve been hearing about Tombstone all convention long. lol And at the end, Jensen said, “It was a good one” about the episode. So, he’s a fan, guys! No doubt about it.

Anyway, I’ll share more if you guys want them, but these are the ones that stood out as being more relevant because they were mainly about this week’s Supernatural episode.

Jensen added, “And Dean’s been the grumpy step dad!”

Jensen said, “In the beginning, he could only see Lucifer in Jack, now he sees Cas.”

I AM CRYING THIS IS BEAUTIFUL AND AMAZING AND I LOVE EVERYONE JENSEN WHAT IS HAPPENING TO YOU

Love. Love and happy things are happening. Positivity. Nice things.

ITS GLORIOUS!

untamedpassages:

Obviously the ‘Tombstone’ scene with Dean and Cas has been yelled about all weekend, but one thing I’m super surprised I haven’t seen discussed is the way it blatantly uses polysemy and then destroys it as this was the first thing out of like a million in that scene that had me silently screaming.

Like, as soon as the name of the episode was released, everyone latched on to the fact that, especially as it was about cowboys, it could be a reference to the movie or to the town. A third reading is that it’s an episode about ghouls. This is not a new thing: Supernatural has always used polysemy, but especially in the last four or five years it’s been an increasingly important part of Destiel discussion. Almost every single scene with Dean and Cas has had multiple readings, to the point where we’ve had to literally discuss what qualifies as ‘canon’, because by so many definitions, it’s literally already canon.

So I pretty much expected them to lampshade the ‘Tombstone’ movie and move on, kind of as a wink wink nudge nudge to the audience, because this is the usual move. Veiled acknowledgement, but nothing more. BUT OF COURSE, in this GLORIOUS season where there is literally no sub to that text anymore, Davy Perez went straight past wink wink nudge nudge to a fucking “I’m your Huckleberry” god bless this season.

Dean brings up ‘Tombstone’, and then Cas says, “The city?” This is literally Perez pointing out the two readings of the title. (And like, look. It’s not a coincidence that one reading is pretty obvious and the other reading is literally a queer-coded one.)

Then Perez has Dean go, no, not the obvious one. The queer-coded one.

And then makes it gayer. Not just ‘nope, the queer-coded one’, but ‘the queer-coded one that we watched together’.

And then makes it even gayer. ‘The queer-coded one that you made me watch with you (singular) and will now use a reference to in a deep voice and you’ll have to swallow and look away.’

The “I’m your huckleberry” line has also been scrutinized like hell, but something that’s really, really interesting to me is, as pointed out in this great post by someoneworthfinding, it’s not a romantic-coded line. It’s a taunt. It’s a dare, and Cas watches Dean’s reaction to it very closely.

And Dean looks away, swallows hard, licks his lips, and then tells Cas honestly, without any posturing or nicknames or jokes, that he’s glad to have him back. This part of the scene, more than anything, feels like testing the waters and a huge step forward.

mamawantswinchesters:

Just imagine if Destiel became canon ‘behind the scenes’?

Like, we’re just going along, watching the eps and HOPing, when suddenly a scene comes up where Cas returns from some mission somewhere or other and

Dean says, all casual-like, “when we started this, we agreed we wouldn’t go on solo missions without checking in. You worried me.”

And Cas comes over and gives him just a quick kiss on the temple or top of his head and says “Sorry babe, my battery died”.
